Arguably, one of the names of the most popular media personalities in Nigeria today that is fast becoming a household name for lovers of entertainment is Ebuka Obi Uchendu, popularly known as Ebuka.
Ebuka came into the limelight in 2006 after his participation as one of the 14 contestants of the first edition of Nigeria’s Number one Reality TV show; Big Brother Naija in 2006, and quickly rose to stardom in the media personality Industry with a slew of hosting and presenting gigs underneath his belt.
Since the resurgence of the sensational BBN Reality TV show in 2017, Ebuka has been the host of the show back-to-back till date. Besides the sensational intrigues of the show, Ebuka’s outfit is a source of motivation for many viewers to watch the show, because they are certain that he’s going to come with another delectable fashion style. Indeed, Ebuka’s outfit change is a show on its own and an important part of the live eviction show on Big Brother Naija. According to the famous GQ Magazine, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu is currently the most fashionable man in Nigeria with his style and charisma.
Ebuka has been an audacious fashion influencer through his choice of designs, and colour selections. He confidently wears colours that are generally not masculine and has been able to indoctrinate these colours into the masculine community thereby using them to make bold fashion statements that many have recreated and thus became trends. Ebuka is a dynamic fashionista who always looks great in any kind of dress he chooses. He might choose to look corporate and at times chooses to look traditional, and sometimes chooses to look off the trend but still looking smart and dope in it.
He has succeeded in becoming a model and brand influencer to a host of Nigerian fashion designers such as Atafo, Ugo Monye, Vanskere, Tribes By Nobs, David Wej, Deco_29 to mention a few. Using the BBN stage as his runway, He has never failed to entertain his lovers besides the entertainment from the reality show with classy, and tasteful menswear fashion that are out of the box color-made simple designs like the remote control traditional 2 piece, the color block pants and the military-inspired kaftans, corporate colorful suits and several traditional inspired designs.
Looking at a number of gigs he engages in, I think it is safe to call Ebuka a jack of all trades. He is a TV host, a Writer, a Lawyer, an Emcee, and a fashion influencer. He brings an aura of professionalism and excellence to whatever he does which made him one of the Best 100 Young Nigerians honored by the federal government in one of the events to mark the country’s centenary.
In the run up to the 2011 general elections in Nigeria, he hosted the first ever presidential debate focused on youth issues, which was broadcast live across Nigeria, and has been a columnist with a Nigerian national daily newspaper “Thisday” where he maintained a weekly column called Contrast for many years.
In 2013, Ebuka was announced as the new host for a popular Nigerian TV talk-show “Rubbin’ Minds” by the producers of the show, and has since then gone on to interview big names like Banky W, Senator Dino Melaye, Asari Dokubo, Gbenga Sesan, Seun Kuti and Davido amongst others. He also became one of the co-hosts of The Spot; a TV show on DSTV, alongside Lamide Akintobi and Zainab Balogun, and also joined Arit Okpo as a co-host on Naija Politics.
The Washington College of Law alumnus became the host of Nigeria’s first all-male Talk show “Men’s Corner” in 2016 and through his background as a lawyer, and his deep roots in entertainment, he became an ideal candidate to bridge a fine gap between justice and fun in the courtroom as he co-hosts a reality TV show “Judging Matters” beginning from April 27, 2020 alongside an experienced but retired Lagos State Judge, Justice Olusola Williams.
Consistently, in all of these TV shows and programs, Ebuka has never failed to make an impression with his audacious outfits. Therefore, it is suffice to say that his dress sense and wardrobe is actually worth studying as he doesn’t seem to be bowing out of his fashion influencing games anytime soon.
